feeling better

Yeah, so this weekend wasn't bad. Hung out with C the whole time. When not lying on the bunkbeds (his place), the couch (his place) or the futon mattress (my place; I'll tell you about it later), while I talked at him about what a nice day it was and how could he stand to live in a subterranean cavernous basement and if he weren't a pretty brown color at all times by virtue of genetics, he would be a pasty white corpselike color, like me, because he never goes outside, we accomplished the following things: (and yes, I'm a jerk):

  • Scavenged in the ruins of K-mart. The store near my house is one of the K-marts slated for closing, so we wanted to see if there was anything left. I must say that K-mart has deserved its demise. There were random items piled on top of each other on the shelves, rotting (and non-vacuum-sealed) catfish bait in the hunting section, and expired milk (like way expired, like March 6th) for sale in the refrigerated section. Which would be understandable, because they're closing, but none of this was any different from how it was before... icky. I much prefer Target for my shampoo-and-24-roll-packages-of-toilet-paper needs, as I have the suspicion that Wal-mart is a satanic empire (if you want proof, it can be found here. Still, we did find 10 yards of bubble wrap for $1.49 and some cute playing cards with maps of various countries and their capitals on the backs.
  • Finally finished planning the Michigan vacation, reserved the cabin and everything. We're going to spend three days in Copper Harbor, which is, I think, the northernmost town in Michigan, on Lake Superior, and three days in Grand Marais, which is miles away from anywhere but also on Lake Superior. I can't imagine that this is interesting to anyone else.

  • Felt weird cravings for Italian food and went to Little Italy, only to find that once again, it was impossible to get a plate of spaghetti for under ten bucks. And if you wanted chicken or veal or something, it would have been more like twenty. Then there's the temptation of appetizers, desserts, the second-cheapest wine on the list... We've sworn off Italian food before for this very reason. Finally ended up at this weird Middle Eastern restaurant in the heart of the Italian strip. It was actually good--excellent hummus and decent tabouli for around $5. C had a pita sandwich with char-broiled beef and lamb in tahini sauce, which he liked. I think we'll go back.

Gah. I really have to leave for work now.
